Yes, I have been watching non-stop inauguration coverage, and feel the same sense of hope, excitement, and anticipation as so many of us here in the US, and around the world. Many have said that the "stars were aligned with the election of Obama at this time". I feel somehow that the stars were aligned for me on this day! Today I received my visa to Ghana, the final step in the process to allow me to volunteer at a medical clinic, a dream of mine for many years. How beautifully fitting that I received my visa on this national "day of service" on Dr. MLK's birthday. I wish nothing more than for all of us to never lose the undeniable belief and understanding that we are all part of something bigger than ourselves. To live that each day, is to live with purpose and responsibility. Not just America, but the world, will change with that belief.
Wow...quite reflective for my first blog! What can I say...we're living through history! Let's move forward (and start packing...I'm going to Africa in less than 3 weeks!)!!
To the love of my life, my niece Michaela: you're too young to remember living through this time, but I hope the positive effects from it will allow you to grow up in and be a part of a country you can be proud of. (And, of course, I wish for you a lifetime of wonderful adventures).
